Plant a Red Canadian Maple Tree

Red Maple, Acer rubrum is a beautiful, full bodied, upright colourful deciduous trees that can grow up to 35 metres in height (145 ft). In the Autumn their leaves turn to a deep red colour making them standout on any landscape.

Maple trees (Acer spp.) are deciduous trees native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. They are widely cultivated for their attractive foliage, attractive bark, and sweet sap, which can be used to produce maple syrup. There are over 120 species of maple, but some of the most common include:

Sugar maple (Acer saccharum)
Red maple (Acer rubrum) – Our tree
Silver maple (Acer saccharinum)
Norway maple (Acer platanoides)
Japanese maple (Acer palmatum)

Maple trees grow to different heights depending on the species, ranging from small shrubs to large trees. They have a broad, spreading crown, and the leaves can be simple or lobed, and come in a range of colours from green to red, yellow, and purple. In the fall, the leaves change colour and provide spectacular displays of red, orange, and yellow. Maple trees prefer moist, well-drained soils and partial to full sun, but some species are more adaptable to different growing conditions than others. They are generally hardy and resistant to pests and diseases, but some species can be susceptible to problems such as verticillium wilt, tar spot, and scale insects.

Maple trees are ideal for large gardens and parks and make an attractive focal point for anyone wanting to enhance the scenery. Red maple trees have beautiful red flowers, red and orange Autumn leaves and pink seeds. They are extremely adaptable to most soil types and are fabulous for woodland projects.

Planting and gifting of Maple trees provides a lifetime of wonder for the person the tree is dedicated to.
